Geneva, Switzerland: The President of the Central Tibetan Administration Dr Lobsang Sangay met with Remi Pagani, the mayor of the Geneva city, officials from Swiss federal government and Swiss Parliamentarian group for Tibet during his final leg of three-nation Europe visit on 29 and 30 January.
Highlighting the concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet, Dr Sangay urged the federal government to strengthen its advocacy for the humans rights in Tibet and also for the environmental health of Tibet and its plateaus, the fast disappearing of the glaciers which serves as the third largest repository of ice fields after the two poles pauses a serious concern with global warming, climate change and water scarcity looming over the world.
The meeting also saw the discussion of the Tibetan immigration problems and the decision to recognize Tibetan as Chinese nationals on the Swiss documents. Dr Sangay requested the Swiss federal government to reconsider on these issues.
Briefing on the CTA’s Thank You campaign to mark 2018 as the year of gratitude, Dr Sangay expressed his gratitude to Switzerland for continuing to be a gracious host to Tibetan refugees since the 1960’s.
The visit also saw the meeting of Dr Sangay with members of the Swiss parliamentary group for Tibet wherein he discussed the Middle Way Policy, human rights, and UN officials.
Dr Sangay also met Mayor Remy Pagani of Geneva City and invited him to attend and speak at Europe Stands for Tibet rally to be held on 10th of March in Geneva which marks the 60th anniversary of the Tibetan people’s uprising in Tibet, which he accepted.
