Washington DC: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay spent the whole day traversing Washington DC for a series of high-level meetings with US State Department and Congressional staffers to discuss the current Tibetan human rights issues and the Tibet Policy and Support Act.
Sikyong also met with senior staff members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to brief them about the importance of the Tibet bill and urged their support for passage of the bill in the Senate.
The Office of Tibet, Washington DC hosted a lunch for the Congressional-Executive Commission On China staffers, Senator Rubio’s Foreign Affairs adviser, and Speaker Pelosi’s senior adviser to celebrate the House version of the Tibet Policy and Support Act. Representative Tsering and Sikyong thanked all the lunch participants for their hard work that made the bill’s creation and passage possible.
After the lunch, Sikyong met with Scott Busby, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, to discuss the current state of Tibetans in Tibet and the geopolitics surrounding Tibet-China.
In the morning, Dr. Sangay was interviewed by Radio Free Asia. Tomorrow, Dr Sangay and Office of Tibet staffers will be travelling down to Charlottesville, Virginia since Sikyong was requested to speak at the University of Virginia Law School.
