Cape Town: President Dr Lobsang Sangay of Central Tibetan Administration attended the State of the Nation Address (2019 SONA) of the President of South Africa on 7 February in the Parliament.
President Dr Sangay was hosted and introduced by the leader of the Democratic Alliance and the official Opposition Party, Hon Mmusi Maimane and introduced to its members of caucus and other guests in a welcome reception before attending the SONA.
On the morning of 8 February, the Democratic Alliance organized a talk on Internationalism, Nationalism and Liberalism in the context of Tibet China relations which was attended by the Chief Whip of the DA party Hon John Henry Steenhuisen and dozens of Parliament members of DA caucus and other interested scholars. They listened to his talk with rapt attention and many asked questions.
They expressed their strong support for the Tibetan issue and applauded the efforts of Dr Sangay in keeping the Tibet issue alive despite immense pressure put by the Communist Chinese government.
