Shillong: Parliamentarians Ven. Khenpo Ngodup Sonam and Juchen Konchok Chodon officially visited Shillong Tibetan settlement from 16-19 Oct 2019.
Parliamentarians began their official program on 17 October by paying a visit to the Buddhist monastery where the abbot and monks gave a warm reception by offering traditional white scarfs. The abbot briefed them about the spiritual activities of the monastery.
Later they visited Sambota Tibetan School where the staff and students accorded a traditional welcome with the school band. They also witnessed the morning assembly program and the headmaster briefed them about the daily activities carried out in the school. Parliamentarians closely interacted with the students and advised them to be studious and obedient. They further inspected the school’s surroundings and classes.
In the afternoon, Parliamentarians paid a visit to the offices of Local Tibetan Assembly, RTFM, Tibetan Settlement Officer, and Mentseekhang.
The next day, the MPs held an official meeting with the Tibetans community in Shillong, where Juchen Konchok Chodon addressed briefly about the parliament sessions. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of paying national contribution as per the charter and also requested the people to pay the same. Khenpo Ngodup stressed on the importance of unity and preservation of Tibetan language and culture. He also spoke on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s four commitments towards the promotion of human values and compassion.
The public meeting was followed by a meeting with local dignitaries.
The Tibetan community in Shillong hosted a dinner for the MPs.
They departed for the Tenzin gang Tibetan settlement the next day.
