ARUNACHAL Pradesh: Kalon Ngodup Tsering of the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, is on an official visit to the Tibetan settlements in Arunachal Pradesh from 16 -29 April.
Settlement officer of Tezu Dhargyeling along with heads of the various organisations welcomed Kalon at Dibrugarh airport on 17 April. On his arrival at the settlement, Kalon inspected the branch clinic, Mentseekhang clinic, old people’s home and community hall of the settlement.
He also visited the local Sambhota Tibetan school the next day and spoke to the students on the importance of education and urged them to become future leaders of the Tibetan movement. The talk to the students was followed by inspection visits to the classrooms.
Interacting with the teachers, he discussed various teaching methods, health and capacity development of the students as well as of the teachers. He also invited views on how to improve the standard of education in the Tibetan school system.
In the afternoon, Kalon gave a public talk to the residents of the Tibetan settlement. He spoke about the 15th Kashag’s five-fifty strategy, the sustenance of the Tibetan settlements, the personal security of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, etc.
He also announced 2017 as a year of lobbying for Tibet and 2018 as year of gratitude to the Indian government, as declared by the 15th Kashag. He further admitted that Tibetans couldn’t compete with the Chinese economically or militarily but only through investing in the education of Tibetan children. The public talk was followed by an question and answer session.
On 20 April, he participated in the parent teacher meeting and answered queries from the parents on the state of Tibetan education. He urged the parents to take equal participation in the development of Tibetan education.
