Dharamshala: The Department of Education (DOE), Central Tibetan Administration has released an amount Rs.1,848,000 to support 924 students who are stranded in 19 Tibetan residential schools across India due to the nationwide lockdown beginning mid-March as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Wuhan origin COVID-19. The students in the schools are under four different school systems viz. TCV (7 schools), STSS (4 schools), THF (3 schools), CTSA (5 schools).
Most of these are class XII students who were in the midst of their board examination when the lockdown was announced. Hence, they were not able to go home due to travel restrictions. Moreover, they had to stay back awaiting information on the rescheduled exam dates. As the lockdown continues, DOE felt that along with the provision of supporting the students emotionally and academically, these students also need monetary support to purchase daily essentials. Hence, as per the name list received from the above 19 Tibetan schools, each student will be provided with Rs. 2000. This relief money is funded by Global Affairs Canada.
