DHARAMSHALA: Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok, Kalon of the Department of Religion and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration, visited the Tibetan settlement in Dolanji, Himachal Pradesh on 5 May. He was welcomed at the settlement by the Settlement Officer, chairman of the local Tibetan assembly and representatives of organisations and monasteries based in the area.
He first called on Kyabje Menri Trizin Rinpoche to pay his respects and visited Menriling monastery. He then visited the monastery’s library and other sacred spaces. In the afternoon, he went to the Sorig Bumshi institute of the monastery and inspected the classrooms and other facilities.
Following the inspection visit to the institute, he addressed the Tibetan public in the community hall on sustenance of Tibetan settlements, five-fifty strategy, Tibetan culture, women empowerment and the importance of maintaining cultural and moral values.
On 6 May, he visited the Tibetan school and spoke to the students and teachers. He emphasised the importance of development of modern education along with preservation of Tibetan language and culture. He inspected the classrooms and paid a visit to Ratna Menling nunnery following the talk.
He returned to Dharamshala on 7 May.
