His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Visit Ahmedabad to Launch Festival of Tibet Will Give Talks on Globalization and World Peace and Business and Ethics

At the invitation of the Darpana Academy for Arts
and Kanoria Centre of Arts His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit
Ahmedabad, Gujarat in late January to launch a Festival of Tibet.
"We are happy that His Holiness the Dalai Lama has accepted the invitation
from these two important cultural centres in Ahmedabad," said Mrs. Kesang
Y. Takla, the kalon for the Department of Information and International
Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration based in Dharamsala in
north India.
"The generosity of these two cultural centres in hosting His Holiness the
Dalai Lama and organizing the Tibet Festival will provide us the
opportunity to spread the message of His Holiness to a wider audience and
in introducing the wealth of Tibet’s cultural heritage to the people of
Gujarat," said Kalon Kesang Y. Takla.
While in Ahmedabad, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will address the students
and faculty members of the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad on
business and ethics. His Holiness will later give a public talk on
globalisation and world peace at the Gujarat Vidypeeth University.
The Tibet Festival will showcase a film festival during which such classic
Hollywood films on Tibet like Seven Years in Tibet and Kundun and other
equally riveting movies like The Cup and Compassion in Exile will be
screened at the Natarani Theatre of the Darpana Academy for Arts.
Admission to view these films is free and is arranged on the
basis of first-come- first- serve. These films will be screened at the
Darpana Academy every evening from 16 to 19 January.
The Darpana Academy for Arts will also host talks by well-known scholars
on Tibetan medicine, Buddhism and science, foreign travelers to Tibet
through the ages and a gripping lecture on the traditional relations
between India and Tibet. These lectures will take place on 16, 17, 19
and 20 January at the Darpana Academy at 6:00 pm. Admission is free.
The Darpana Academy will also host an evening of traditional Tibetan songs
and dances on 20 January at 8:30 pm. Admission is free.
Meanwhile, the Kanoria Centre of Arts will host a photo exhibition on the
life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, another photo exhibition on Tibet
past and present called A Long Look Homeward. The Kanoria Centre for Arts
will also host a thangka painting exhibition. There will be a
demonstration of this unique style of painting.
The Kanoria Centre for Arts will also host a free consultation for
patients by a traditional Tibetan doctor. These activities will take place
every day from 16 to 20 January.
