Strong Peaceful Activism Needed for the Resolution of Tibet Issue, Says Kalon Tripa
Dharamshala 1 June 2005- The endeavours of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and some officials of the Central Tibetan Administration alone will not suffice for the resolution of the Tibetan cause through the Middle-Way Approach, Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche has said in an interview to the Tibetan newspaper Bod Kyi Bangchen.
Kalon Tripa was asked about the types of activism that Tibetans could carry out without violating the Middle-Way Approach.
Kalon Tripa said that Tibetans inside and outside Tibet must in unison carry out peaceful non-violent activism as put forward by His Holiness on a sustained basis.
The ideology of the Middle-Way Approach may be good, but the activism of those
who seek it should equally be up to the task to achieve it, he said.
Although it is important that the people are made aware of the various means of peaceful activism, he said, it is not necessary that all activisms must come only from the official channels, or involve only mass gatherings or protest demonstrations.
"Even an individual can through the general conduct of his body, speech and mind help further the common cause of Tibet in numerous ways."
Kalon Tripa also said it is very important that all Tibetans demonstrate a clear and strong gesture of support for the Middle-Way Approach and on the need to resolve the Tibet issue through this approach.
"In order to do that we need to set aside our internal differences as trivial matters and show the world that all Tibetans can stand united when it comes to our fundamental cause.
"In the broad movement for the resolution of Tibetan cause, there are numerous ways to demonstrate our unison of mind, stand and support. And people must do that."
Kalon Tripa concluded his interview with an appeal that after years of efforts the realisation of negotiation is approaching near, and until issues become clear through negotiation, Tibetans should refrain from doing anything that may affect adversely and continue doing everything that will impact favourably on the efforts to create a conducive environment for negotiation.
