Kashag: No Protests During Hu's America Visit

Dharamshala: Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche has urged Tibetans and Tibet support groups based in the United States and Canada, not to protest during the forthcoming visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to those countries later this month.
Any protests against President Hu will not only jeopardize the ongoing Sino-Tibetan dialogue, but also cause embarrassment for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, as he is also expected to be in the country at about that time, Kalon Tripa added.
Despite Kashag's appeal for normalcy, Tibetans staged various protest demonstrations during President Hu's visit to the Americas and Europe last year. As a direct fallout of those protests, the fifth round of ongoing Sino-Tibetan talks was deferred by over three months, the Kashag points out in an appeal letter issued yesterday.
In this year's 10 March statement, His Holiness the Dalai Lama strongly endorsed the efforts of Kashag in creating a congenial environment for negotiations.
His Holiness said, "We must leave no stone unturned to help the process of dialogue for the resolution of the Sino-Tibetan problem. I urge all Tibetans to take note of this on the basis of the Kashag's appeal. I make the same request to Tibet supporters and those sympathetic to the Tibetan people."
Thus, any protests this time will only indicate that Tibetans and Tibet Support Groups do not cooperate or pay any heed to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's recent pronouncements on the 47th anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising Day, the appeal letter added.
