Brief information about Bir Tibetan settlement

This settlement was established in 1966 under the Tibetan Industrial Rehabilitation Scheme(TIRS). The settlement then started a carpet weaving Center which latter become the major source of income for the settlers and the society.

During winter, most of the settlers go out to sell winter garments in various towns and cities in India. This has now become very important source of income for them.

Brief history about Tibetan Primary Health Care Centre, Bir

In 1967, a small tent-dispensary was opened under the TIRS management with a para-medical and later with a Doctor. Later 4 rooms clinic was built with support and aided by Swiss Zonta Club.

In 1990, with kind support from group of Swiss Tibetan residents and Zonta Club, it could further extented to PHC level with new additional rooms(12 rooms, 1 kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 2 latrines.) and staff. The PHC's land was donated by H.E. Dzongsar Khentse Rinpoche.
Since few years, the PHC was taken over by DoH Dharamsala.
