Tibetan women court arrest in protest against Li Peng's visit
New Delhi, Jan 12 (ANI): Hundreds of Tibetan women were arrested on Friday morning while protesting against the visit to India of Chairman of the standing committee of the National People's Congress of China, Li Peng.
The arrests took place outside the Qutub Minar.
The protest was organised by Tibetan Women's Association, representating Tibetans living in exile in India.
A statement issued by the Association said, " Let us have a fair and frank dialogue (with Chinese leaders on Tibet).
Unless the issue of Tibet is resolved, there cannot be long term solution of national interest between Asia's two largest countries.
"The statement by the association said the Dalai Lama must be involved in peaceful negotiations on Tibet's future.
Vice-president of the association Tashi Lhamo said, "These demonstrations are to show to the world that Tibet is an occupied country and that the very survival of our country, our race, our heritage and culture is in danger.
"Until theTibet issue is resolved, Tibetans will continue to carry out such demonstrations," she added.
