Taiwanese Friends of Tibet join Tibetans in Fasting and Prayers

Taipei: As part of the non-violent action initiated by the Tibetan Solidarity Committee to end human rights violations inside Tibet and to promote peace and harmony in the world, the office of Tibet-based in Taipei, organised the 12-hour-long prayer congregation and symbolic fasting from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (local time) on 30 August.

The former abbot of Sera Je Monastery, Khensur Dhonyoe Rinpoche, presided over the occasion, which was attended by hundreds of people, including monks from different of schools of religion, Tibetans living in Tawain and Taiwanese supporters of Tibetan cause.

Mr Dawa Tsering, representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, addressed the gathering on the objectives of observing this important non-violent campaign and also delivered the statement from the Kashag.

Along with fasting, people prayed to end conflict and calamities in the world and to end suppression of human rights and atrocities in Tibet under the brutal Chinese oppression.

They also offered prayers for the long and healthy life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in order to have his visions and activities to benefit all sentient beings accomplished.

Apart from those who gathered at the event organised by the office of Tibet, around 187 people observed the prayer session and fasting in their respective institutions and homes.

These include religious institutions such as Palgyi Tashi Yangtse Thubten Namdak Ling, Taitung Gaden Jangtse Norling Institution, Drepung Losel Ling Institution, Terchen Nyidrag Institutions and individual family members of HongShao Len (Dhondup Tsomo) and an Indian couple, Mr D Nag and Sonyi Yasu.
