His Holiness Prays for Victims in China Quake

Tuesday, 13 May 2008, 11:35 a.m.
Dharamshala: In a message issued today, His Holiness the Dalai Lama said: "I am deeply saddened by the loss of many lives and many more who have been injured in the catastrophic earthquake that struck Sichuan province of China."

"I would like to extend my deep sympathy and heartfelt condolences to those families who have been directly affected by the strong earthquake on 12 May 2008. I offer my prayers for those who have lost their lives and those injured in the quake," His Holiness added.

On Monday, a strong earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale jolted Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province in southwest China at 2:28 p.m., resulting in nearly 9,000 deaths so far, reported Xinhua, China's official news agency.

Tremors were also reported in over half of China's provinces and municipalities, according to the China Seismological Bureau.
