Kalmyk and Tibetan artists perform together at a cultural show

Dharamshala: The Tibetan and Kalmyk artists gave a fascinating performance yesterday evening at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) to observe the celebration of the 17th anniversary of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize and the White Lotus award to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Extending her greetings to the Kalmyk artists, the director of the TIPA, Kalsang Y. Dagpo, said that it is an honour and pleasure to perform with the Kalmyks with whom we have over 1000 years old cultural and spiritual relationship.

"We feel a sense of kinship with the Kalmyk people", she added.

She closed her speech with a hope and prayers that the Tibetan and Kalmyk artists could perform together in the Tibetan capital Lhasa.

In his address, the chairman of the Parliament of Kalmyk Republic, Kichikov Igor, said that meeting the Tibetan people here and experiencing their culture have moved him. "Though sometimes we do conduct Tibetan cultural programmes like dances and exhibitions in our region", he added.

Calling their purpose of this visit as to present the White Lotus, highest honour of their republic, to His Holiness the Dalai Lama Mr. Igor said, "We love and respect His Holiness as Tibetans and we always pray for his long life. His Holiness' life is very precious not only for the Tibetans but also for the whole people of the world."

The chairperson of the Kalmyk Tibet Support Group (TSG), Kookueva Antonina briefed the audience on the foundation and activities of the TSG in her region.

The cultural show closed with a speech of the Kalmyk cultural minister, Vasilieva Larisa, in which she invited the TIPA troupe to visit and perform in her country.

The Kalmyk MPs and the Tibetan dignitaries including, Kalon Tripa and his colleagues, the speaker and deputy speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, chief justice commissioner and justice commissioners of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, deputies of the exile parliament, and officials of the Central Tibetan Administration were also present at the cultural show.
